Engine Development and Calibration
From initial engine calibration to final release calibration, MET/Engineering have the experience for your job.
We have long experience for gasoline engines up to 20000 rpm and 900+ hp, from single cylinder engine to V12, fuel pressure up to 1000 bar with direct or indirect injection, multiple sparks system, various shapes of butterflies, intake system and exhaust system.
MET/engineering have culture to achieve efficient calibration process & tools using DoE and other highly efficient test and calibration methods.
A summary of test we have experience of:
- initial engine calibration with first guess map
- fuel injector spray investigation and position
- intake and exhaust tuning for best performance / lowest fuel consumption
- cooling and lubrication circuit functionality
- combustion analysis, pressure indication, knocking, misfiring and ion-sensing
- steady-state calibration
- exhaust gas analysis with slow and fast response analyser
- heat and friction analysis and measurement in cold and hot conditions
More advanced tests and developments we have experience of are the following:
- engine map localization -- for reliable running in extreme conditions
- intake manifold optimisation for performance, engine protection in severe environments
- snorkel (air duct) optimisation for maximum air flow
- exhaust architecture and layout to define the power curve
- engine mapping to avoid fire in the airbox -- a not infrequent case of engine faults in racing
- transient calibration
- operating conditions compensations
Other calibration experience we have is on component testing, oil, water, fuel, hydraulics circuits to base engine, fuel injectors and cylinder head. On the valve train we have experience in valve-motion measurements and analysis.
Experience with coolants different from water, high performance oils and fast-burn fuels.
MET/engineering experience focuses on more than simply engine power and efficiency; drivability, dynamic response and fuel economy are specialities. The MET/engineering engine development service looks at every detail of your project, including materials, coatings, surface textures, fuel spray, calibration, emissions and much more. Heat and friction analysis is carried out to the highest possible standards, with high-performance solutions developed quickly and reliably thanks to a culture of rapid problem solving.
